A SHORT PERSONAL BIO FOR A LONG LIFE AND CAREER

I was blessed early on, from childhood, with the knowledge that I wanted to be an Artist. Not any kind of Artist, but a FINE ARTIST. My mother, a media director, kept me supplied with materials to draw, paint and sculpt. In fact, my mother was a skilled Artist and my father was a Fine Woodworker, passing down to me the perfect genetic makeup for me to be a painter/sculptor, in love with exotic woods.

While I always knew what I wanted to be, the difficult part for me was discovering how to get there. After a couple of false starts I realized “The How To”... A College Education!

After graduating from Mt. San Antonio college in 1980 I was accepted into Pitzer College in Claremont.

After graduation from Pitzer in 1982 I went straight to Claremont Graduate University. It was here that I began my first 8 foot totemic, painted wood carvings and fell deeply in love with the carving process. Also noteworthy at this time is that I began to trust that little voice inside of me, and as it grew louder I came into my own!

In 1984, straight out of Graduate School, I was approached and soon thereafter represented by Karl Bornstein Gallery in Santa Monica. Many shows and exhibitions followed; 1 person shows, 2 person shows and numerous group shows. In addition to Bornstein Gallery, some other Venues were Claremont Foundation, Scripps College, University of La Verne, galleries in San Diego, Palm Springs, San Francisco as well as many others.

In 1988 I sold my house, now single and unemployed, LIVING IN THE LIGHT, I moved my home and studio to a warehouse in College business Park in Upland, California. I began teaching college level Art and worked part time for the University of LaVerne {prison program}, Cal Poly and Mt. San Antonio College, teaching part time. Living in a warehouse suited me perfectly! The 17 years I spent in that studio were prolific and afforded me accelerated growth. I continued working with exotic woods, integrating global concepts into my work.

Art Making met Art Business and formed a lovely union. Some collectors from this period were from Germany, Australia, Chicago, Arizona and of course, Southern California, with Sam Maloof having collected numerous sculptures of mine, including my large scale Carousel, which is on his property now. Later collectors were from Ecuador, Shanghai China, Qingdao China. Idaho, Boston and more.

In 2001, I made my first trip to China. Day 2 there, exploring the streets of Shanghai I KNEW I would be living there. DESTINY CALLED... and I ANSWERED. In 2005, when the SARS scare had passed, I made the move to Shanghai, leaving my history behind and with great excitement I moved into my new Life’s chapter. It was at this time that I began teaching spoken English to Chinese College students who were preparing to study abroad. I continued creating my wood sculptures, against the protest of my neighbors above and below me in the high rise. I exhibited in International Shows and I was represented by a prominent Shanghai Gallery.

More than 6 years later I moved to the beautiful city of Qingdao in Shandong Province, China. I bought a home, used this as my studio, and taught English part time, all the while continuing to make painted wood sculptures. After 18 months, once again, I sold the house and MOVED INTO THE LIGHT! I returned to the USA, to Boston, the place where I spent my childhood.

Here I am now, in Boston, 7 years after leaving China. I live in a state of peace and joyousness, creating Art every day and teaching English part time to immigrants. Today I am blessed with the freedom to express my truth in both worlds, physical and spiritual. My current body of works addresses, deals with, and honors my mortality. The content of my Art has always paralleled my evolution. Some people want to make Art and some people NEED to make Art. I am among the latter. I have the deepest gratitude for the Art Making Process that has guided me through the years and made me who I am today.

Life goes on and I continue with the ONE constant in my life... ART MAKING.

LIVE NOW... LOVE LIFE... LOVE ART !!!
